Add an Online Operator
We have seen many websites with "online operators" using a popup chat window. How hard is it to get something like that into an existing website?
Adding a chat system to an existing website is not difficult at all. Online Operator systems are self-contained software applications that will need to be installed on your website server, then have some code added to your website pages so the website visitor can initiate a chat.
Online Operator Systems that can allow you to add many operators, transfer callers, add canned responses and use a database to capture chat information, so prospective customer leads can be turned over to your sales department or followed up with at a later date.
Your staff will need maybe an hour of training in using the system before you get started.
Tips:
- Be sure your chat window graphics fit in with your website design so it looks totally integrated.
- If you use canned responses, make sure that your operators know how to use canned responses appropriately.
- Have operators train before the system goes live and have operators role play with other employees so they can be both operator and customer.
- Be sure someone acts as the super administrator and monitors operator transcripts from time to time to see how well online operators are doing.
- Be careful not to overtax new operators. If your operators multi-task and your website traffic is brisk, you may need to have a few backup operators ready to help out.
- Work with a website developer who has some experience setting up and configuring an Online Operator system so the process will go smoothly.
