Create Website Requirements
We do not have anyone at our company who can put together s Requirements Document. We do not want to turn a website designer loose on our web site.
How do we get some basic documentation in place?
It is a good idea to put on paper some basic ideas about features you would like to have or what is not working particularly well with your current website as a starting poing. Feedback from current clients may help you to identify ways your website can be improved.
Reputable website designers will want to talk to you at length about your website goals, the current website design, and additional features you may want to consider, before they put together a detailed proposal.
Tips:
- Have co-workers or others help describe the primary purpose of your website.
- If re-designing a website, be sure to describe what is not working or areas you know need improving.
- Include some basic website statistics for the past 12 months (unique visitors, numbers of visit per visitor, time on website, number of pages viewed, etc.).
- List out features or capabilities you would like the website to have that it does not currently have.
- Be sure to have both primary and secondary goals for your website.
- If your website has complex needs or will need some custom programming, be sure to detail what these needs are or what will need to happen in the website or what other systems the website will need to interact with.
- Consider using a Content Management System (CMS).
- If you have a large website project and no one on staff to write up requirements, consider working with a website developer to help you define the website projects as a small project.
