Make Changes to Our Website
Someone in our IT department created our website several years ago, but they have left the company. How can we make changes to our website?
Provided there are some records regarding the website hosting account, a website designer should be able to help you gain access to your website to make changes to the website.
Most websites use standard HTML or XHTML coding, so different resources can be used to make changes to your website.
Tips:
- Keep a notebook with all information relating to the company's website such as:
-
- Domain Registrar (including login iformation)
- Hosting Company contact information
- FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
- Web applications (including version installed, database names and passwords)
- Email addresses including passwords
- If you use an internal webmaster for updating your website, make sure they train someone else in the company as a back up in case they go on vacation (or leave the company).
- Utilize an outside resource for website maintenance if it takes too long to get updates made internally.
