Redesign An Existing Website
Our website hasn't been touched in about five years. We just got a quote from a company who wants about five times what the website cost originally to redeisgn our website. Why is there such a big jump in cost?
Seldom is a website redisgn as simple as coming up with a new look and feel and making a few content changes.
Most website redesign projects are completely new websites, with a content management system, new graphics, more pages, and many enhanced features.
A major consideration when redesigning a older website is search engine optimization. Older websites that are not being found by Google and other search engines easily will need a lot of work, often involvingĀ changing the actual website structure in some cases, and the addition of relevant content in other cases.
Older websites generally required less work to create than newer, more elaborate websites.
Tips:
- Solicit feedback from staff and customers on how the website can be improved
- Document your new website goals
- Write some basic website requirements
- Consider creating a website RFP (Request For Quote)
- List and prioritize new enhanced website features
- Consider building your website in phases
- Make sure the new website design is search engine friendly
- Consider using a content management system (CMS)
